Artist Statement

Since before civilization, rituals and the artifacts that take part in them have been a driving force for humans to pursue meaning and survival. The legends and history these traditions carry, provide me with a link to these ancestral cultures. In this link I find the opportunity to create my own ceramic artifacts and vessels.

My work is mainly influenced by ancient pre-columbian civilizations, their deities, and their ceramics. My Peruvian heritage presents itself physically in the form of nostalgia, and awe to the historic legacy left by these cultures.

I make my funcional work with the intent to elevate the dialogue between what, and how we consume. The tradition of sharing meals is a ritual itself, but it’s been pushed culturally and collectibly to the side.

Using vessels that ask for our attention with their color, form and texture draws us back into the meal. This consideration lets us appreciate on new layers the simple act of eating and sharing with others.
